About Me
My name is Metzli Flores, and I am a Mexican-American artist from Chicago, Illinois. I have been passionate about art since childhood, engaging with art and loving my art classes throughout elementary school, where I would often illustrate mini books for myself. This early connection to art blossomed into a deeper passion, and it has since become a central part of my life. I am currently an undergraduate student at Dominican University, where I continue to refine my skills and develop my artistic voice. Additionally, I work as the teaching assistant for drawing and painting at Dominican and as an art instructor at Slowfire Ceramics in Oak Park.
As an artist, I am exploring various techniques, particularly in painting, with the goal of creating future projects that deeply engage with emotion. My work often revolves around capturing the feeling and essence of a subject, whether it's through a portrait, a landscape, or a more abstract composition. I work with a variety of mediums including oil paint, charcoal, colored pencils, and graphic design tools like Adobe Illustrator. Each medium offers a unique way to express different elements of my work, and I enjoy experimenting with new techniques and approaches.
Studying art at Dominican University has been transformative for me. It has given me the opportunity to learn how objects interact in space and has deepened my understanding of visual storytelling. The guidance of my professors, particularly the study of master painters, has helped me sharpen my technical skills and refine my artistic vision. My future career goals vary from becoming a courtroom sketch artist, to painting portraits of future presidents, or even developing graphic design work for Taylor Swift. I look forward to continuing to grow as an artist and to creating work that resonates with others on an emotional level.
